"Reuben absolutely loves it, he wanted me to thank you for making him sound less nervous and he said his mum loved it too!"

A recent filming commission for XPENG UK took us to London for the day, which was gloriously sunny and a whole heap of fun. The art challenge brief was to encourage innovative and forward-thinking artists with any level of experience to interpret the theme of “Art in Motion.” This involved creating a high-impact piece of art, fusing unique talent with our design philosophy and featuring an image of (or reference to) an XPENG G6 vehicle.

XPENG received over 200 entrants to the XPENG Visionary Art Challenge and after a period of intense judging by their expert panel, they had their winner - Reuben Sutherland.

Reuben's winning piece is an innovative zoetrope* design that will be printed in a wide range of leading magazines, can be cut out, placed on a turntable and using a mobile phone the user can see the art piece some to life. The short form documentary interview takes a behind-the-scenes look at his artistic approach.

*Zoetrope, phenakistoscope and animated picture discs were popular in the 19th century but more recently they have had a resurgence and were used as vinyl zoetropes accompanying many musical artists music in 12" and 7" disc form, such as Bonobo, Kate Bush and Bombay Bicycle Club.

You can see more People & their stories in the Our Work section.
