Join a maximum of 6 for a supportive learning experience with David & Helen in Llanberis, North Wales, 24-27 Sept 2026.
We are delighted to share with you our newest retreat offering that will be taking place at Llanberis Retreats, North Wales in September 2026 – Learning to Look: A Photography Retreat, with hosts David and Helen. Bookings are now open.
This is a three-day residential photography retreat designed for beginner and intermediate photographers, the retreat focuses on building confidence with the camera while exploring light, composition and the character of place. Through teaching, practice and gentle guidance, participants will be supported in developing a more confident and personal photography practice.
The focus isn’t on chasing epic landscapes, but on working with light, detail, atmosphere and composition — learning how to make images with intention rather than pressure. David’s teaching will be accessible and supportive, with plenty of opportunity to put learning into practice with mini-briefs in a small group of up to a maximum of six participants. Any DSLR/mirrorless camera is ideal, plus we have a small amount of gear you can borrow.
David and Helen are both experienced photographers and film makers with a passion for seeing and sharing the world through a thoughtful lens. David has been a professional designer & photographer since 2008, leading workshops focusing on documentary photography. Helen brings a rich understanding of visual storytelling and personal expression with many years of experience.
You’ll stay with us at our cosy retreat venue in Llanberis, giving you the freedom to fully immerse yourself in the learning, group exploration and learn to look and capture the world around you. David and Helen will guide you through the weekend from photography teaching, exploration and hosting, a Sauna session at the lake, as well as a short gentle relaxation session, designed to help you stretch, relax and bring mindful awareness to the body. This will complement the photography experience, supporting focus, presence and a grounded connection to the surroundings.
After the retreat, participants will also have access to an online learning space, creative prompts and a community area to share work and stay connected, supporting longer-term learning beyond the time together in Wales.
