Event Photography for Design Social North in Leeds.

Design Social North at the Royal Armouries Museum in Leeds brought together a vibrant mix of designers, architects, and creatives, all showcasing the latest ideas in interior design, furniture, and sustainability. We were commissioned to document the event through both photography and a short film for social media and web use.

Events like this are about more than just recording what’s there, they’re about capturing the energy, the atmosphere, and the connections happening in real time. Throughout the day, David focused on movement and interaction: conversations between exhibitors and visitors, moments of curiosity and the natural flow of people engaging with the space.

A key event photography approach that we use is to constantly explore different angles and perspectives. Rather than staying static, David moved through the venue, looking for compositions that added depth and context, foreground details, layered scenes and unexpected viewpoints that help build a stronger narrative.

Anticipation plays a huge role in this kind of work. Whether it’s someone about to greet a colleague, react to a piece of design, or engage in conversation, being ready for those moments before they happen is what creates more dynamic and meaningful images. People should always at the centre of the story.

The accompanying film helped bring another dimension to the coverage, capturing the pace and rhythm of the event. All visuals were edited in Lightroom and Premier Pro for the film, keeping a consistent and professional finish across platforms.

The result is a visual record that reflects not just the event itself, but the creativity and collaboration shaping the future of design in the North.
